Welcome to the Faculty of Animal Science Universitas Hasanuddin webpage. We are pleased to have you as part of our academic community. This website serves as a resource to support your educational journey, providing essential information about our programs, facilities, policies, and student support services. It reflects our commitment to excellence in education, research, and community engagement.
The Faculty, through the Bachelor Program in Animal Husbandry (BPAH), holds distinctive local advantages that contribute strategically to advancing animal science and technology in Indonesia. Notable among these are the indigenous “Alope” chicken, officially recognized as a genetic line of Indonesian local chicken by the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Indonesia, and the polled Bali cattle—a rare genetic resource unique to South Sulawesi.
To strengthen academic and research capacity, BPAH has also developed key facilities, including two closed-house poultry units with a production capacity of 50,000 birds per cycle, and an Integrated Biotechnology Laboratory accredited by the National Accreditation Committee. In addition, the program has initiated the development of a horse stable, envisioned as a center for education, research, and community service in breeding, nutrition, and animal welfare, while supporting the sustainable growth of the equine sector in Indonesia.
Beyond its academic curriculum, the program offers Competency Strengthening Courses (CSC), which encourage students to enhance their skills through non-face-to-face programs such as competitions, entrepreneurship, organizational involvement, internships, and community service. At BPAH, mandatory CSC components include a 6-credit industrial internship and a 2-credit entrepreneurship course.
Since December 2023, the CSC program has been implemented, involving four cohorts totaling 714 students and 70 partner institutions and industries. Activities are conducted both domestically and internationally, including in the University of Malaysia-UPM, Malaysia, Japan, Australia, Greece, Italy, and Turkey. BPAH oversees partner selection, field supervision, and systematic evaluation. Through strong partnerships, the CSC program not only enhances students’ technical and professional competencies but also cultivates soft skills such as communication, teamwork, and work ethics—aligning with the institution’s mission to produce work-ready graduates who contribute meaningfully to industry and society.
We encourage you to explore the opportunities available, actively engage in academic and non-academic activities, and uphold the values of integrity, professionalism, and collaboration. Together, let us build a meaningful and impactful learning experience.
In 2010 based on the Decree of the Director General of Higher Education of the Ministry of National Education No. 1451/D/T/2010 dated November 29, 2010, the Faculty of Animal Science merged the four study programs into one study program, namely the Bachelor Programme in Animal Husbandry, with an operating permit based on the Decree of the Director General of Higher Education No. 3137/D/T/K-N/2010 dated July 22, 2010. Throughout its journey, the Faculty of Animal Science has reorganized itself several times to respond to the dynamics of developments that have occurred. The Bachelor Programme in Animal Husbandry is fully supported by three departments, namely the Department of Animal Production, Animal Nutrition and Feed Science, and Socio-Economics of Animal Husbandry. These departments manage several laboratories to support the three pillars of higher education activities (education, research, and community service).
