Animal Physiology Laboratory

Animal Physiology Laboratory

The Animal Physiology Laboratory is needed to increase the level of understanding of physiological function theories (blood function, circulatory system, heart mechanism, nervous activity, respiration, muscle contraction mechanism, etc.) in the body of an animal, including livestock. Another role is to increase the reasoning power of undergraduate students in understanding physiological engineering to increase livestock production. This laboratory is equipped with facilities to support practical and research activities related to the physiological aspects of livestock.

Head of Laboratory:

Prof. Dr. Ir. Herry Sonjaya, DEA, DES.

PURPOSE

  1. To ensure that the implementation of the Animal Physiology practicum runs systematically, safely, and in accordance with the course learning outcomes;
  2. To ensure that every student understands and complies with occupational safety procedures and ethical guidelines for the use of practicum equipment and experimental animals.

SCOPE

This SOP applies to all practicum activities organized at the Animal Physiology Laboratory, Faculty of Animal Science, Hasanuddin University, covering:

  • Scheduled practicum as part of the Animal Physiology course;
  • Student research practicum (thesis) that uses practicum equipment and experimental animals.

GENERAL LABORATORY REGULATIONS

  1. Practicum students are required to arrive 15 minutes before the practicum begins (dressed properly, wearing a lab coat and name tag);
  2. Practicum students are required to bring the practicum guideline, control card, and writing instruments;
  3. Practicum students must be familiar with the work procedures of the practicum to be carried out later;
  4. Practicum students are required to provide written justification (doctor’s note or official permission letter) to the lecturer or teaching assistant if unable to attend the practicum.
  5. Practicum students must attend assistance sessions and respond to questions concerning the practicum and the underlying theory.
  6. Practicum students must conduct the practicum with full attention and record experimental results.
  7. Practicum students are not allowed to leave the laboratorium without permission/consent from the teaching assistant.
  8. Practicum students are prohibited from engaging activities other than practicum activities, such as smoking, eating, drinking, and joking around that may cause disturbance.
  9. Maintain cleanliness of the equipment used during the practicum as well as the practicum room by disposing of waste in its designated place.
  10. Loss or damage to equipment used during the practicum must be reported immediately to the teaching assistant on duty so that the practicum may proceed smoothly.
  11. If equipment damage or loss is due to negligence of a practicum participant, that participant must replace the equipment with an identical item, one week after the practicum maximum.
