A total of 20 lecturers from the Department of Animal Production, Faculty of Animal Science, Hasanuddin University took action in the form of community services to encourage the community, the smallholder farmer in particular, to improve awareness toward the nutritional deficiency and the environment. The particular activity was carried out in the area of a smallholder farmer “Manongkoki II” located in Manongkoki Village, North Polongbangkeng District, Takalar Regency (Saturday 14 October 2023).
The material presented during the activity included the management system of raising the local chicken by Dr Wempie Pakiding; the application of eco-enzymes made from household waste in the animal feed by drh. Farida Nur Yuliati; and the demonstration of diversification the chicken meat product by Dr Hajrawati.
The PIC of the activity as well as the Head of the Animal Production Department, Prof M Irfan Said, IPM, ASEAN Eng., hopes that through the extension services, the farmer and other community members could understand better and be able to apply the discussion material in their daily lives. He also said that through this collaboration, the academic members from the university could optimize their role in improving the local tropical animal development on a smallholder scale, fulfilling the community members’ nutrition and enhancing the community’s awareness of their surroundings.
