As a follow-up to the multi-year Community Service Program (PPM), especially the Empowerment of Fostered Villages (PDB) scheme funded by the Directorate of Research, Technology and Community Service (DRTPM), Directorate General of Higher Education, Research and Technology, Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology (Kemendikbud Ristek), a collaboration was carried out between two universities.
The collaboration of Community Service activities was carried out by faculty members from the Faculty of Animal Science, Universitas Hasanuddin (Unhas), and faculty members from the Faculty of Economics, Bosowa University (Unibos) as a form of concern for universities in implementing research results in the community. The team from the Faculty of Animal Science Unhas consisted of Prof. Dr. Ir. Muhammad Irfan Said, S.Pt, M.P, IPM, ASEAN Eng. as the chief executive, and the team members respectively: Dr. Ir. Agr. Renny Fatmyah Utamy, S.Pt, M.Agr, IPM and Dr. Sutomo, S.Pt, M.Si. The team from the Faculty of Economics Unibos was represented by Dr. Miah Said, SE, M.Sc.
Several technologies have been implemented, including 1) livestock organic waste processing technology (feces and urine) into compost and liquid organic fertilizer, 2) fermented straw silage feed production process technology, 3) housing management, 4) oyster mushroom diversification technology, and 5) product development and innovation strategies through digital marketing.
The activity was carried out in Watu Village, Marioriwawo District, Soppeng Regency, South Sulawesi. This activity involved farmers groups in the area i.e., the “Allaringnge” Farmers Group (KTT) led by Mr. Amiruddin, who is actively involved in Bali cattle farming, the Women’s Farmers Group (KWT) was represented by the “Kampung Baru” group led by Hardiyanti with the main activity of oyster mushroom cultivation, and the third group from the Bumdes “Dewa Utama” lev by Linda Arianti as the group that focusing on marketing of the UMKM products in Watu Village. Furthermore, to accelerate the technology transfer, the DRTPM has facilitated assistance in the form of technological equipment, such as compost grinding machines, compost sifter machines, straw chopping machines, sack packaging sewing machines, digital scales, and silage fermentation silos. The Watu Village government and the farmer’s community, in general, have warmly welcomed this program.
