Makassar, June 24, 2026 — Hasanuddin University (Unhas) has once again demonstrated its commitment to expanding its global network and enhancing student capacity through international exchange programs. A total of 14 students from the Faculty of Animal Science at Unhas were dispatched to Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin (UniSZA), Malaysia, to participate in the FPV Inbound Mobility Program 2026, themed “Advancing Veterinary Entomology Through Global Mobility.” The program, running from June 16–30, 2026, involves students from three educational levels: doctoral, master’s, and undergraduate.
The Dean of the Faculty of Animal Science at Unhas stated that this program is part of the university’s strategic efforts to promote student academic mobility abroad while addressing global challenges in feed security and organic waste management. “We fully support this initiative by the Faculty of Animal Science. This program not only enriches students’ academic perspectives but also serves as tangible evidence that Unhas continues to actively build impactful international collaborations,” he said.
Blended Learning Method: Online and Field-Based
This two-week program is designed using a blended learning method that combines online lectures and hands-on field practice. During the first week (June 16–23, 2026), students participated in online lectures from the Unhas campus in Makassar via Google Meet/UniSZA platforms. The materials covered fundamentals of entomology, insect structure and function, the role of insects as disease vectors, and their utilization in animal feed and biotechnology.
Entering the second week (June 24–30, 2026), all participants traveled to the Besut Campus in Terengganu, Malaysia, to attend face-to-face sessions and field practicums at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, UniSZA. Activities in Malaysia included identifying insect vectors in the laboratory, case discussions on the role of insects in animal feed, and an industry visit to a Black Soldier Fly (BSF) production facility, which serves as an innovative solution for organic waste management and alternative feed provision.
Strategic Benefits for Students and the University
This program offers a number of strategic benefits. For students, cross-border learning experiences add value to their academic competencies while honing intercultural communication skills, international teamwork, and independence. Additionally, each participant has the opportunity to earn 1 course credit, which can be converted into the Unhas curriculum.
For the Faculty of Animal Science at Unhas, this collaboration opens up opportunities for joint research, international publications, and the potential development of double degree or sandwich programs in the future. For Hasanuddin University as a whole, this activity also supports the achievement of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) related to students engaging in activities abroad, while strengthening Unhas’s position as an actively international mobility-oriented university.
UniSZA itself is a leading public university in Malaysia that has established strategic partnerships with over 100 higher education institutions across Asia and Europe. The Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at UniSZA, as the host, has an excellent reputation in the development of tropical veterinary sciences, including veterinary entomology, which is the main theme of this program.
Full University Support
University leadership, through the Office of International Affairs at Unhas under the coordination of the University Secretary (Sekun Unhas), continues to encourage and facilitate various student mobility programs, whether through scholarship schemes or inter-institutional partnerships. Through this program, Unhas hopes to continue expanding its global network and producing graduates who are not only competent in their fields but also competitive on the international stage.
With the program concluding on June 30, 2026, all participants are scheduled to return to Indonesia on July 1, 2026. Unhas is optimistic that this invaluable experience will serve as a foundation for students in facing future global challenges.
