Animal By-Product Processing Technology Laboratory

For meat-producing animals, only approximately 30% of the product can be obtained in the form of meat, the remaining 70% of the product is a by-product that has not been utilized optimally. Some examples of those included in the animal by-product category are skin, feathers, hair, wool, feces, urine, rumen contents, blood, bones, horns, nails, fat, eggshells, and hatchery wastes as well as organs in the form of offal. There is still a lack of available sources of scientific information and literature as well as a lack of technological knowledge related to the processing and utilization of livestock by-products, causing this product to be less popular with the public.

To meet these needs, this laboratory exists as a means to develop scientific studies, especially those related to processing technology and utilization of livestock by-products. The results of this scientific study will then be applied in the form of dissemination of appropriate technology to the outside community.
