The Faculty of Animal Husbandry, Hasanuddin University, held a public lecture entitled “Climate-resilient animal production: Eco-friendly feed resources for sustainable livestock systems,” presented by Dr. Emely J. Escala, from Capiz State University, Philippines (October 16, 2025).
The public lecture was attended by animal science students from various classes. The event was opened by the Vice Dean for Partnerships, Research, and Innovation, Prof. Dr. Ihsan A. Dagong, M.Si., and moderated by Fahrul Irawan, S.Pt., M.Si., Ph.D.
Dr. Emely outlined several impacts of climate change globally and, more specifically, gave several examples from Southeast Asia practices, including the Philippines and Indonesia. She noted that the most significant impacts of climate change are not only directly impacting livestock but also on the livelihoods of smallholder farmers, particularly from an economic perspective. One simple solution to mitigate climate change is the use of local feed ingredients and methods that incorporate local wisdom from various regions. In this way, livestock farmers can survive and even thrive amidst climate uncertainty. At the end of her presentation, Dr. Emely encouraged the public lecture participants, who were mostly young people, to be proactive and get involved in various activities that can help mitigate climate change.
The student participants were quite enthusiastic about the material and asked numerous questions of the presenter. The event concluded with a group photo session..
